After reading this story, it seems first-class customer appreciation is a crucial part of Ford Motor Co's current plan for long term viability. But rather than a simple post-purchase thank you, smile or pat on the back from a local dealer, the execs in Dearborn are taking it upon themselves...literally. According to an Asssociated Press report, Grand Rapids, Michigan, lawyer Michael Snapper received a call from FoMoCo president and CEO Alan Mulally thanking him after changing his decision to buy a Toyota Prius hybrid. Instead, Snapper purchased a yet-to-be-delivered Ford Fusion Hybrid.
What buyer qualifications garner such a call from the head honcho of one of the world's biggest automakers? We're not exactly sure, but according to Snapper, the simple "Thank You" voicemail message was a definite sign of Mulally's "new attitude and a real commitment" to ensuring Ford's future success. Of course, naysayers may also describe the congenial gesture as an indication of the automaker's desperate situation, but regardless of your point of view, it's a noteworthy gesture.
It's unclear if Mulally plans on calling other customers who favor the Blue Oval over other brands, but we'll be sure to keep an ear out. Oh, and if you receive a shout out from Mulally himself, be sure to let us know.
